How are UN-certified FIBC bags different?

Arpit Kushawaha

The process of transporting & storing hazardous goods comes with unique challenges. Because of these expansive rules and the potentially hazardous nature of the items being stored and transported, a sturdy FIBC product is required. As a consequence, UN Certified Bags have been developed.

What are FIBC Bags That Are UN Certified?

FIBC bags that have been certified by the UN (United Nations) are made in a certain way and have been proven to be able to transport and store potentially hazardous substances. Such sacks are manufactured, tested, and validated for use with various products in environments with a risk of fire, explosion, chemical combustion, toxic pollution, or natural injury.

Because of the bags’ superior structural integrity, UN-certified bags are in a league of their own compared to other bags currently on the market.

What Sets UN FIBC Bags differently?

In certain situations, such as the storage and transportation of hazardous goods, a regular FIBC will not fulfil the requirements for the Type of contents. UN FIBC Bag is used for the express purpose of transporting and storing potentially hazardous chemicals. To be properly delegated as UN packets, various details and testing standards set out by the UN must be satisfied.

Differentiating between the requirements of verification, labeling, and naming –

An FIBC can be marketed as UN-certified bags if it complies with the UN’s explicit testing guidelines and is suitably labelled for each lot.

FIBC bulk bags facilitate the transportation of a wide variety of items and their storage. Because of their adaptability, longevity, and competitive price point, these bags are becoming increasingly popular in logistics. Food-grade products & chemicals can be transported without incident using FIBC bags without difficulty; nevertheless, some dangerous materials require further care and protection. The UN-certified bag is necessary for transporting such items.

What is UN Certified Bulk Bags?

These bulk bags are especially created to contain & ship critically hazardous goods and are certified by the UN. These bags are constructed from an exceptionally hardy substance, which helps stop leaks and block contamination of vulnerable products by either external or internal elements.

How are Regular Bulk Bags Distinct from UN Certified Bags?

Bags that have been certified by the UN are put to use to store and transport things & materials that have been deemed dangerous by the UN. The UN requires that these bags adhere to the norms and requirements for testing that it has outlined. When you buy bulk bags from an UN-certified manufacturer, you can be assured that even the most hazardous materials and goods will be transported without incident.

UN Certified Bags

Bags that meet the requirements of the UN must have the following:

· Exceptional toughness that simply cannot be obtained in conventional bulk bags.

· Abilities to prevent leaks that have been improved.

· Makes it possible to better reduce the bag’s contamination risk.

· Liners for insulation provide an additional layer of defence.

Yet, if you wouldn’t want these liners, you can purchase bags that do not come with such liners included in the package.

Bulk bags have a wide range of applications because of their flawless construction, which enables them to effectively transport hazardous products & unsafe industrial waste to and from various locations. Get UN-certified bags in a variety of sizes. Even the shapes and carrying capacity of the bags are a little bit different from one another. This ensures that the specific demands of every one of the customers are met in a manner that is both efficient and satisfactory.

The Applications of UN-certified bags-

UN-approved bag applications are plentiful because all these bags have been created, tested, and certified to function effectively in various environmental situations. You can use such bulk bags when there is a potential for explosions, fires, toxic contamination, environmental damage, or chemical burns.

It can convey materials and commodities by rail, water, or land. The United Nations (UN) mandates the implementation of certain regulations & safeguards. Because of this, it is ensured that there will be no harm done to persons or property, as well as no harm done to the environment or its destruction. You can have peace of mind knowing that any time you require the transportation of hazardous items, bulk bags certified by the UN is available to serve you.

FIBC Bags can be used to store and carry a diverse range of goods and components due to their versatile design. When it comes to transporting and storing some hazardous materials, classic bulk bags do not always meet the safety regulations, which are essential for the safe ability to handle these kinds of items. These requirements are essential to ensure that these items are not handled unsafely. There is a solution for this problem in the form of UN-certified bags.

The UN-approved bulk bags go through extensive testing –

To guarantee that all of the bags labelled as UN Approved can carry and store hazardous items securely, each of the bags must be put through stringent testing methods. A concise summary of what such examinations entail can be seen below.

1) Analysing the Vibrations

The bags are used for a severe vibration test for an hour, during which time they must not burst and must not have any leakage.

2) Checking the Top Lift

The bags are hoisted from the top and must keep their shape while bearing a safe working load (SWL) ratio of 6:1 for 5 minutes. There must not be any loss of contents, nor there be any permanent deformation.

3) Checking the Stack

The top load is placed on top of a loaded bag and left there for twenty-four hours. The total weight of the top load is approximately one and a half times the maximum allowable gross combined mass of the sacks, which may be piled on top. Both the bag’s contents and its condition must remain in pristine condition at all times.

4) The Testing of Drops

According to the packaging group, these bags are dropped at one of three different heights. There must be no degradation of materials.

5) Examination of the Topple

The bags are tipped over from a particular height, which varies according to the packaging group. There must be no deletion of contents.

6) Verification of Righting

The bags are raised from their horizontal position to their upright position. The bag should be in perfect condition.

7) Examining the Tears

Shots are cut into the bags using a knife held at a 45-degree angle. In the first part of the test, a uniform top load up to a maximum allowable safe working load will be applied. At least five minutes must pass without the bag being disturbed. In the second part of the test, the bag must keep its shape after being cut at an angle of 45 degrees and hung upside down for five minutes. The width of the cut can’t be increased by more than 25 percent from its starting point.

What are the various forms that FIBC bags can take?

The majority of FIBC bags fall into one of these four categories. A, B, C, & D are the answers. When intermediate bulk containers (FIBCs) are filled and discharged, there is a possibility that the movement of the materials will cause a buildup of electrical currents. When working with combustible and flammable materials, preventing these electric charges from accumulating is an absolute necessity. There may be no flammability concerns about other materials.

  •       FIBC Bags Type A (no electrostatic protection)

Type A FIBCs offer no anti-static protection. When using a bag made of woven polypropylene (woven pp), static electricity can be created when the bag’s contents rub against the bag’s interior surface as it is filled and emptied. It is crucial that Type A bags not be used to store and transport explosive material and that they not be used in environments that are flammable or combustible. Since Type A bags do not provide any static protection, this is the case.

  •       Type B FIBC Bags (surface dielectric strength of fewer than 6,000 volts)

In the same way as Type A bulk bags, Type B bulk bags never include a mechanism that can discharge static energy. The difference between the two types of bulk bags is that Type B bulk bags are constructed out of components with low breakdown voltage. This prevents highly energising and potentially hazardous propagating brush discharges (PBD). While Type B FIBCs can avoid PBD, it is impossible to classify them as antistatic FIBCs since they do not allow electrostatic charge dissipation. Brush discharges can still happen normally, which can ignite dangerous solvent fumes.

  •       FIBC Type C Bags (Electrically conductive or ground-able)

The conductive or ground-able FIBCs are another name for these. In the beginning, they were constructed from conductive materials alone. In most cases, ground-able Type C FIBCs are constructed using non-conductive polypropylene interlaced with conductive yarns, often in a grid pattern. The conductive threads must be connected to the ground or earth to ensure the user’s safety when using a Type C FIBC. Human errors can occur in any manual process, including checking that the connectivity & grounding of Type C FIBC are in place.

  •       Type D FIBC Bags (Crohmiq static dissipation or antistatic)

Antistatic bulk bags are constructed from static-protective fabric to safely reduce the onset of incendiary jolts, brush discharges, & propagating brush discharges. This is accomplished without using a link from the bulk bag to the floor or ground. Once antistatic bulk bags are constructed using CROHMIQ fabric, the inherent risk of grounding failure is eliminated. This risk is always present anytime conductive Type C FIBCs (grounded FIBCs) are used, but it is eliminated when antistatic bulk bags are constructed using CROHMIQ fabric.

UN Certified Bulk Bags are created with the particular intention of being able to transport and store hazardous items by the standards established by the United Nations. For the bags to be given this label, they must be put through rigorous testing procedures. Whenever it comes to fulfilling these standards, sales professionals are extremely well-versed in the subject matter.
