Description

What is a geomembrane sheet?

Geomembrane Sheets are low-permeability synthetic membrane liners, which are constructed from high quality high-density polyethylene or other polyolefin resins, featuring high flexibility, good mechanical strength, low moisture absorption and excellent chemical resistance. Geomembrane sheets are commonly employed in geotechnical containment projects where the barrier material needs to be highly reliable, resistant to UV degradation and cost effective.

These sheets are resistant to acids, alkalis and other industrial or agricultural chemicals. They can be used for water tanks, waste pits and irrigation reservoirs. The Geomembrane material is better than other plastic materials in that it has a longer lifespan outdoors and more resistance to tensile strength. This makes them perfect for subsoil and exposed applications.

Available Geomembrane Sheet Types

Virgin Geomembrane Sheets

This ensures high tensile strength, uniform molecular structures, and environmental friendliness.

Geomembrane Sheets Reprocessed

Sheets made from high-quality recycled plastics that are cost-effective and suitable for trenches or drainage containment.

UV Stabilized Geomembrane Sheets

The fabric is made with the latest UV stabilizers, and black carbon to resist exposure to harsh outdoor conditions and long-term sun rays.

Black Geomembrane Sheets

Carbon black is added to the paint in a quantity of 2.0% - 3.0% for UV protection and environmental shielding.

Textured Geomembrane Sheets

Raised, roughened surfaces provide excellent grip and resistance to soil, stones or geotextiles sliding down steep slopes.

Geomembrane Sheets Sizes and Custom Options

Geomembrane is available in standard and custom-sized sheets to meet specific engineering requirements:

Geomembrane Sheet Manufacturing Process

Singhal Industries Private Limited uses modern extrusion technologies to ensure that every geomembrane is subjected to a rigorous quality control.

  • Step 1 – Selection of Raw Material and Compounding: A high grade of Virgin Polyolefin and light stabilizers are chosen and compounded with anti-oxidants.
  • Step 2 – Extrusion Process: Uniform masses of the raw material are formed by means of heavy extruders.
  • Step 3 - Sheet Forming: The material is formed in continuous sheets with a specified cross-sectional gauge through circular coextrusion dies, or blown film/slot dies.
  • Step 4: Cooling and Calibration: The sheet is then fed through cooling rollers that are calendaring to calibrate the sheet's finishing characteristics.
  • Step 5: Quality Check: All batches of manufacturing are tested for thickness, tensile, chemical and puncture resistance.
  • Step 6 – Packaging and Dispatch: The rolls are slit carefully, reeled on heavy steel cores and packaged for dispatch.

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q1: What are geomembrane sheets used for?

Geomembrane sheets are used to line irrigation ponds for agriculture, fish/shrimp farms in commercial aquaculture and landfills. They can also be used to line canals, lagunas, industrial wastewater containment systems and landfills.

Q2: How thick should geomembrane sheets be?

A thickness of 0.75 mm to 1.00 mm (30-40 mil) is common for fish and shrimp farms. However, heavy industrial dams or agricultural reservoirs as well as rocky terrains require a thickness of 1.50 mm to 2.00 mm 60-80 mil.

Q3: Can geomembrane sheets be treated chemically?

Geomembrane sheets have a high resistance to chemicals and fertilizers. They are resistant to concentrated industrial acids, soil salts, and alkalis.

Q4: Can Geomembrane Sheets be welded?

The geomembrane sheets can be joined permanently through the use of an automated hot-wedge welder or handheld extruder.

Q5: Are geomembrane sheets safe for aquatic plants and fish?

Fish and aquatic plants are safe to be accommodated within a geomembrane liner with a high density. Our virgin geomembrane sheets are manufactured without harmful plasticizers or chlorine additives. They are non-toxic, odorless and completely harmless for aquatic life.

Q6: What is the difference between HDPE Geomembranes and PVC Liners?

HDPE Geomembrane sheeting offers better UV resistance when used outside and has a higher longevity compared to others. The sheets are permanently heat welded. PVC is known to be vulnerable to UV light exposure and needs chemical tape/adhesive.

Q7: Are there any other sizes available for Geomembrane Sheet Rolls?

Yes, We manufacture custom size sheets at Singhal Industries Private Limited, that can be used for civil engineering applications.

Q8: Is a Geomembrane Sheet capable of resisting UV light rays?

Yes. In our black Geomembrane Sheets, there is 2.0% - 3.0% Carbon Black and special UV stabilizers that prevent the sheet from cracking due to exposure to open air sunlight for decades.

Q9: Is a protective fabric required to be installed underneath the geomembrane?

It is highly recommended that a geotextile fabric non-woven underlayment be used under the geomembrane.

Q10: What is the difference between the smooth surface geomembrane sheets and textured ones?

Smooth surface geomembranes are best suited for containment cells and reservoirs with the usual flat bottom. Textured geomembrane is the best choice for steep slopes and vertical embankments as it helps avoid slipping of protective earthwork or stone.

Q11: Do geomembrane sheets break under cold conditions?

High-Density Polyethylene is an excellent material for cold weather conditions. The material keeps its structural flexibility and impact resistance even at subzero temperatures.

Q12: Which geomembrane sheet would you choose for commercial shrimp farming and why?

For commercial aquaculture, it is best to use the geomembrane sheets of virgin HDPE with a thickness from 0.75 mm up to 1.00 mm. It is the best choice for commercial aquaculture because it guarantees the purity of the water for a long time, protects from mechanical damages during harvesting and easy cleaning.

Q13: What is the wholesale price for geomembranes?

Wholesale pricing depends on the total area of the sheet material and whether virgin or recycled phenol resin is used. The buyer can reach our sales department to get a quote based on specific requirements.

Q14: Are geomembrane sheets recyclable?

After completing the long life cycle of high-density plastic, it can be reprocessed successfully into other plastic utility items.

Q15: What can we do for an export order or for a commercial bulk order?

Send your technical information, dimension parameters and shipping destinations to our offices around the world for accurate factory direct pricing and production lead times.
